Gender roles and Toostie

Gender Roles are the main rules in society that men and women are expected to follow. Men are expected to be strong and fearless. While women are suppose to be the ones who cook and clean. In the film Tootsie a man named Michael is trying to get an acting job by dressing up as a woman named Dorothy During his time as a woman, the producer of the show he's on isn't being very fair to the women on the show. He then meets a lady named Julie who is one of the stars on the show. The producer of the show is mostly rude to the women on the the show. Over time Michael sees that being a women isn't as easy as it seems. During a live performance of the show,Dorothy takes off her disguise and reveals the real person she is. At the end of the movie Julie ends up forgiving Michael for what he did.

This movie is a perfect example of Gender roles because it shows the relationship between Males and females. Some males like the producer can be rude or make woman women feel like they aren't good enough do to things that man do. Other people (like me) think that women can do all the things men can do. It's a big question why some men don't think of women as equal to them. Any one who thinks that is completely wrong. Women are as good as men at anything. Rosy the riveter is a woman on a poster that show how women worked in factories in world war two. This proves that women are as good as men.

If men knew how hard a women has to work they wouldn't be as unfair to them.Women have there share of work too. For starters have to clean and cook, which can be a lot of work. Maybe men should cross dress like Michael to see how hard being a woman is. It's fair to say that both genders have the same amount of problems.I think that some people are to stubborned to say that women are just as good as men. We need to face facts and admit The women and men are equal.

Michael had to cross dress as a woman so he could get an acting job. Everyone who saw Michael as a woman thought he was a woman. This lead to some very awkward and funny moments during the film. One can only imagine how Michael was feeling during these moments. This is proof that women deal with hard things in life like being watched by men. While some women like it, other women might not feel the same way. Either way, the  relationships between the opposite sex can have it's ups and it's down.

Gender Roles are what society wants people to do. But some people aren't to happy with Gender Roles. If it were my call I would have Gender roles eliminated for good. But it isn't my call and so Gender Roles are still existing. Without gender roles, people wouldn't have to worry about what they're suppose to be. People don't really need to follow Gender Roles because they can be whatever they want to be. I know some people aren't as sure as me, but I really think I'm right about this.

Feminism in Thelma and Louise

Feminism is the idea where women aren't expected to act like they're frail and weak. In the 1991 film Thelma and Louise, the to women that star in the movie (Thelma and Louise) could be in some way trying to prove a point. Thelma's husband can be portrayed as a controlling person who treats his wife like an object that owns instead of like a person. He would say that men are superior than women. After Louise shoots a guy who tried to rape Thelma, the two girls decide to run from the police and go to Mexico. You might say that another reason they're trying to outrun the gender roles that society puts them though. While they're running, the girls meet a cowboy who seems nice, but when they let him stay with them for one day and he takes off with their money the next day. While the two are on, the they see a trucker who makes rude and offending comments towards them. As a result, Thelma and Louise shoot the trucker's truck, which then explodes. After that was finished the two keep going to Mexico and they get chased be the cops. When the girls get cornered at the Grand Canyon, they make a choice to drive off the cliff into the Grand Canyon.

By doing this act, the two women decided to liberate themselves from the oppression of sexist behavior. During the whole movie, the two women could have been trying to prove a point. They could have been trying to prove that women don't have to be controlled by men and they can be free. Thelma was being controlled by her husband. Louise was able to convince her to leave the house for a vacation for the weekend, but at the bar Thelma almost got raped and Louise shot the rapist. While the girls were on the run, Thelma calls husband to tell him that she'll "be home late". But the husband says that he wants her home tonight. Thelma finally says that she won't take his threats any more and hangs up. This moment in the movie might have been the beginning of the Thelma and Louise's stand against the male dominance.

Thema and Louise aren't acting lady like anymore

To be honest, I'm glad that the women decided to choose their own fate instead of the men choosing it for them. If they had given up, they would have gotten arrested and so they didn't give up. I think they were tired of living in a male controlled society and decided enough was enough. Women can learn a lot for watching this film and they can see that they don't have to be controlled by men or anyone for that matter. Women are as independent as men and should be treated as such.
